Generate leads, clients and business with nothing more than a Webcam!

There are many ways coaches are discovered by their clients.  Some spend money on advertising, others rely on word-of-mouth and then there are those who take it upon themselves to create a sure-fire inexpensive marketing strategy using nothing more than a Webcam and AudioAcrobat.

After reading today’s post we believe that you will see how using AudioAcrobat not only makes the process of producing compelling video teasers quick and easy, but also how the global coaching profession can benefit directly from this type of service.

Once you’ve decided on your script, wardrobe and lighting, please continue on to the quick steps below.

Quick Steps:

1. Log In to your AudioAcrobat account
2. Select Create a Video with a Webcam or Upload from your Computer from the drop-down menu
3. Click Video Web Recorder

Select Create a Video with a Webcam or Upload from your Computer from the drop-down menu

Click Video Web Recorder

At this point you will be on the Video Web Recorder page, where you will most likely see the Adobe Flash Player Settings + Allow / Deny buttons.  Click Allow to give AudioAcrobat permission to access your Webcam and click Begin to bring up the recording interface.

As seen above, the Video Web Recorder interface will display a live preview what your Webcam sees (ours was covered), along with several key functions found immediately to the left:

Configure Camera: Select from different devices attached to your computer, which is especially useful if you do not see a live video feed appearing in the preview pane.

Configure Microphone: Select the microphone device, set / adjust volume, reduce echo and store your Adobe Flash Player Allow / Deny preference here.

To the right, you will see the red Record button.  Click this button to begin recording.  The Stop button will cease recording and the Play button will allow for an instant review post-recording.

Enter a Title and Description to better identify your video in the future and when satisfied with your recording, click Save to send this video to your AudioAcrobat account.  This action will re-direct you to the Media Jobs page where you will be able to track your video’s transcode progress.

If you’re not sure what the Media Jobs page looks like, the example below should help in its identification:

Once the Status of your upload reaches Complete, the uploaded file will appear in the Video section of your account.

Aah, clicks and pops … the things that separate (old) vinyl from newer forms of aural media.  If you’ve ever attempted to digitize your vinyl collection, you may hear more of these clicks and pops in the final product than you’d like, which is why we can assuredly say that today’s post is just for you!

Hint: This process also works well on telephone recordings, such as conference calls, interviews or coaching sessions!

Here, we will walk through the steps of using our favorite free, open-source audio editing software (Audacity) to help remove these spiky-looking nuances, without degrading the rest of the audio, through the application of a Click Removal effect.

For today’s walk-through, we’ll be applying the Click Removal effect using Audacity 1.3 Beta (Unicode) for Windows 7 (as run via Parallels on a MacBook Pro).

Step 1: MP3 Download

Before one can edit their AudioAcrobat recording in Audacity, the first step is to make sure that the file resides on the hard drive of the computer on which editing will be performed.

1. Login to your AudioAcrobat account
2. Click Audio (L)
3. Click the Title of the Audio you wish to Download
4. Click Download Audio

Step 2: Open in Audacity

Now that the file our readers wish to edit is on their computer’s hard drive, they will want to open the file with Audacity.  Right-click the file and choose Open With and select Audacity from the list.  Don’t see it listed?  Open Audacity from the Programs portion of the Start menu on the left side of the task bar.  Open the software and click File >> Open, selecting the audio to be edited.

Once the file opens in Audacity, our readers will see something like this:

Note the spikes: (1) at the beginning and (1) at the end...

Hint: Click the image above to enlarge and you should see the (2) spikes aka ‘clicks’ that we’re going to remove in today’s post.  The first near the top-left and the second near the bottom-right.

Step 3: Highlight, Click Removal + Export

It really is that simple.  Click and drag with the mouse cursor or for those keyboard enthusiasts out there use Shift + Left / Right arrow keys to make a selection.

For the Click Removal effect, our readers will want to make sure to select the area which encompasses the intended duration for which the effect is to be applied.

Here our readers will want to select Effect >> Click Removal as seen below:

Immediately after selecting the Click Removal effect, the following pop-up window will appear:

In today’s post, we will be using the default values seen above, but you are welcome to use the Select Threshold and Max Spike Width value(s) / slider(s) to fine-tune this effect per your specific needs.

Use the Preview button to sample the effect before making a commitment and press OK to confirm the settings and apply the effect.

Here, we see that the two spikes pointed out earlier in this post have been removed, without affecting the surrounding audio:

When satisfied, select File >> Export to save the newly edited version and head over to AudioAcrobat in an internet browser to begin the upload process.

Well that was quick … we’ve already walked through the process of downloading and opening our file, applying a Click Removal effect using Audacity for Windows 7 and exporting the file for upload to the Web … and yet it seems as though we had just begun.  If you agree, go ahead and click the ‘Previous Post’ link beneath this article to continue the joyride!

Once you completed the recording of your coaching session and have your file(s) ready to upload, please continue on to the quick steps below.

Quick Steps:

1. Log In to your AudioAcrobat account
2. Select Upload Audio from your Computer from the drop-down menu

Select Upload Audio from your Computer from the drop-down menu

At this point you will be on the Upload Audio page, where you will see the File: Browse button.  Click Browse to pull up your local hard drive(s) and attached devices and click Open to select the file you wish to upload.

As seen above, the next step is to enter a meaningful Title and Description for the file your uploading.  This will help locate the file and determine the file’s purpose, should the question ever arise.

Hint: Audio Title and Audio Description are for internal use only, visible only by the AudioAcrobat account holder.  This information is never made public.

Moving down the page, we see a pre-filled Audio Quality selection of High Quality (128kb, 44kHz, stereo), which will suit most users’ needs.

Hint: A High Quality selection will yield rich streaming audio and is great for music, radio shows and other productions.  When uploading a conference call or other phone recording, there is no benefit in choosing anything other than Low Quality.

When satisfied, click Upload to get the ball rolling.

After clicking Upload, a new progress bar will appear to the (R) of the File: Browse button at the top of the page.  This will display the speed of the upload taking place in KB/s as well as the selected file name.

It is important to keep this page open in your internet browser until re-directed to the Media Jobs page, as this will be your confirmation that the upload has successfully completed.

Is Beethoven an idol of yours?  Do you wish to make your BPM a bit more ‘andante’?  Whatever pickle you may find yourself in needing to change the tempo of your audio recordings (without changing pitch), today’s posting will walk through the steps of using our favorite free, open-source audio editing software (Audacity) to help you be your own metronome through the application a Change Tempo effect.

Note: This effect is very helpful if you enjoy the tone of your audio but still need to adjust the overall time aka tempo.

When satisfied, select File >> Export to save the newly edited version and head over to AudioAcrobat in an internet browser to begin the upload process.

At this point you will be on the Record Using Your Computer Microphone Page, where you will see the Adobe Flash Player Settings.  Click Allow to give AudioAcrobat.com access to your microphone and click Begin to bring up the recorder.

As seen above, there are several controls for the Audio Web Recorder including Record, Play, Stop and Configure Microphone.  Click the Record button to begin recording.  Click the Stop button to stop recording and click Play to listen to what you’ve just recorded.

Give your recording a Title and Description and press Save to complete the recording process.

Log in to your account at AudioAcrobat.com (Mac + PC compatible) and click Audio (L) to access your recording (MP3 format) at any time or to send a link to your client.

Is your BPM a bit ‘andante’?  Do you aspire to be more like Beethoven?  Whatever situation you find yourself in needing to change the tempo of your audio recordings (without changing pitch), today’s posting will be the guiding light in walking through the steps of using our favorite free, open-source audio editing software (Audacity) to help you be your own metronome through the application a Change Tempo effect.

For today’s walk-through, we’ll be applying the Change Tempo effect using Audacity 1.3 Beta (Unicode) for Windows 7 (as run via Parallels on a MacBook Pro).

Step 1: MP3 Download

Before one can edit their AudioAcrobat recording in Audacity, the first step is to make sure that the file resides on the hard drive of the computer on which editing will be performed.

1. Login to your AudioAcrobat account
2. Click Audio (L)
3. Click the Title of the Audio you wish to Download
4. Click Download Audio

Step 2: Open in Audacity

Now that the file our readers wish to edit is on their computer’s hard drive, they will want to open the file with Audacity.  Right-click the file and choose Open With and select Audacity from the list.  Don’t see it listed?  Open Audacity from the Programs portion of the Start menu on the left side of the task bar.  Open the software and click File >> Open, selecting the audio to be edited.

Once the file opens in Audacity, our readers will see something like this:

Step 3: Highlight, Change Tempo + Export

It really is that simple.  Click and drag with the mouse cursor or for those keyboard enthusiasts out there use Shift + Left / Right arrow keys to make a selection.

For the Change Tempo effect, our readers will want to make sure to select the area which encompasses the intended duration for which the effect is to be applied.

Here our readers will want to select Effect >> Change Tempo as seen below:

Immediately after selecting the Change Tempo effect, the following pop-up window will appear:

Use the Percent Change value / slider to adjust the Length (seconds) or type in a custom value in either box for specific adjustments.  Use the Beats per minute value boxes to set a custom BPM.

Use the Preview button to sample the effect before making a commitment and press OK to confirm the settings and apply the effect.

Note: This effect is very helpful if you enjoy the tone of your audio but still need to adjust the overall time aka tempo.

When satisfied, select File >> Export to save the newly edited version and head over to AudioAcrobat in an internet browser to begin the upload process.

Well that was quick … we’ve already walked through the process of downloading and opening our file, applying a Change Tempo (without changing pitch) effect using Audacity for Windows 7 and exporting the file for upload to the Web … and yet it seems as though we had just begun.  If you agree, go ahead and click the ‘Previous Post’ link beneath this article to continue the joyride!

Once you have your equipment in check and your coaching session scheduled, you will need to acquire your AudioAcrobat Call-In # and 9-digit PIN.  This information can be accessed at any time from within your account, as outlined by the steps below.

Quick Steps:

1. Log In to your AudioAcrobat account
2. Select Record a Phone Call from the drop-down menu

Select Record a Phone Call from the drop-down menu

At this point you will be on the Record by Phone Page, where you will see your Phone Access # and PIN.

Hint: Write this information down on paper and keep it your wallet/purse.  Take a screenshot or add it to your address book.  Remember, this call-in # and PIN are unique to your account and will never change.

How Does It Work?

The process for recording coaching sessions using AudioAcrobat is quite simple.

1. Get your caller on the line (you call them, they call you; either way).

2. Press the Flash / Call Waiting key on your phone (Add Call on iPhone).

3. Enter your AudioAcrobat Call-In Number.  When prompted, enter your 9-digit PIN followed by the # key.

4. Select option 3 for Conference Call or Interview Recording.

5. When prompted, press the Flash / Call Waiting key on your phone (Merge Calls on iPhone)

When finished, either hangup or press the Flash / Call Waiting key to disconnect AudioAcrobat.  Log in to your account at AudioAcrobat.com (Mac + PC compatible) and click Audio (L) to access your recording (MP3 format).

Like it or not, ‘getting out there’ with your product or service is necessary to grow a successful business.  The historic adage is as follows: “You can’t run a business from a cave.”  Simply stated, it boils down to this: Chances are that you’ll make more new connections while out chatting to your peers than not … so don’t be afraid to shake some hands, and most importantly always remember to smile.

#4: Interview Experts In Your Field

Wondering how to get links back to your business’ Website from other sites and boost your overall SEO?  If you were to say, interview an expert in your field, this expert will probably want to share the interview with their mailing list, Website visitors and/or social network friends, fans and followers, right?  Exactly.  Leverage this knowledge to your advantage, as it is the perhaps the most organic way of generating traffic to your Website.  Period.
